Keeping Dollar at Home - Monogram Shoppe Quoted

Bridal Academy Sponsor, Sara Keltsch owner of the Monogram Shoppe was interviewed for her support of the 3/50 Project.

The Journal Gazette story details:

Anyone caught in the crush of Black Friday crowds would probably doubt there’s any pressing need to support local merchants. But Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, was followed by Cyber Monday, when attention quickly turned to online shopping, the biggest threat to brick-and-mortar retailers.

Sara Keltsch, who owns The Monogram Shoppe at Covington Plaza, suggests holiday shoppers should now embrace “Local Saturdays” – three weeks of buying from local businesses. Her idea dovetails nicely with a national initiative she supports, the 3/50 Project.

Minneapolis-based retail consultant Cinda Baxter came up with the idea for the project. She calculated $50 a month in purchases made by half of the employed U.S. population in small, independent businesses would generate $42.6 billion in a year. For every $100 spent at independent retailers, $68 returns to the local economy through employees’ paychecks, taxes and local bank transactions, according to Baxter.

“Ask consumers to frequent three local brick-and-mortar businesses they don’t want to see disappear, and to spend a very affordable $50 per month doing it,” her Web site proposes. “Could be those three. Another three. Doesn’t matter. It’s about funneling revenue back into local business. You know – the folks that pour money back into the community via commercial property taxes, payroll taxes, sales tax and salaries (not to mention all that good will by way of volunteer time, silent auctions, sponsored softball teams, workshops, book signings, etc.).”

Keltsch is less discriminating in her definition of a local retailer. She said she hopes area shoppers will support all brick-and-mortar businesses, including franchise and big-box stores. Like independent businesses, they employ local residents, support the local economy and generate sales tax revenues.

“The governor was just talking about the shortfall in sales taxes and what that means,” Keltsch said. “I would love to help increase that amount. Seven percent of my sales goes to the state. If you buy online, nothing goes back to the state coffers – that’s something people don’t think about.”

So, how about it? Three Saturdays to go before Christmas, three Saturdays to spend dollars that will support local jobs. Those are dollars that will stay in northeast Indiana, supporting other retailers, restaurants, contractors, churches, charities and health providers. The sales taxes will stay in Indiana, supporting state government and schools, and fewer empty storefronts will appear. It’s a project worth supporting this month and throughout the year.

Several Fort Wayne businesses have signed on to the 3/50 Project to promote local buying:
•Fast Print Inc.
•Fort Wayne Outfitters and Bike Depot
•Freeman Jewelers Inc.
•Hall’s Restaurants
•Knitting Off Broadway
•Rusty Gate Decor, LLC
•The Monogram Shoppe
•Wild Hare Décor
•Wooden Nickel Music

Wedding Place Staff Returns From Bridal Seminar

From The Wedding Place

The Wedding Place staff is committed to keeping current on wedding industry education as well as bridal trend. Dawn Quick, owner of The Wedding Place, and her manager, Tesia Lapp attended a Wedding Professional Seminar at Amelishan Bridal in Huburtus, Wisconsin on November 8 & 9th. The seminar was conducted by Steve Lang, CEO of Mon Cheri’ Bridal.

The Sunday topics included identifying the needs of the bridal customer and how to fill them. Steve Lang also talked on being a Wedding Professional. On Monday, Martin Thornburg, designer for Mon Cheri, discussed fabric quality, laces, beading, as well as design of gowns and time frame from paper to completion. The Wedding Place staff also saw photos of the factories in China and an overview of how bridal gowns are designed, created and embellished. As buyers, sellers and consumers the information presented to them as shop owners and employees will make them more knowledgeable as they purchase stock for their stores and boutiques. Those in attendance were invited to discuss alteration problems that could be addressed in the design stages as well as in the field.

The concept of this kind of seminar was initiated by Midwest Bridal Buyers Association three years ago. Each year the topic is different and attracts many shop owners and seamstresses from across the Midwest. This years seminar was the best attended because of the opportunity to discuss design and weddings with a major company’s owner and one if its designers.

The seminar was attended by 13 stores and 80 individuals; owners, employees and seamstresses. All the attending stores are members of Midwest Bridal Buyers Association, Bridal Industry Professionals. Attendees were from Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Nebraska.

The Midwest Bridal Buyers Association was established 27 years ago. Dawn Quick of The Wedding Place in Fort Wayne, IN serves as the current president of this professional wedding organization.

"Harper's Island" is a World Away From Real Brides

by June Hoffman of Megasound

In good faith, I feel unable to write any more on what real brides can learn from “Harper’s Island”. The most recent episode was filled with drama, mystery, and (a lot of) death. I, personally, will watch the remaining episodes of this “thriller”.

If there are lessons for real brides, I will most certainly share them. At this point though, I would hope that the couple makes it off Harper’s Island alive to elope at the justice of the peace.

Emotions Run High at Weddings and on “Harper’s Island”

from June Hoffman of Megasound

Weddings are already an emotionally charged event. The most recent “Harper’s Island” episode proves fighting based on emotions and fear can be just as bad as alcohol-induced fights.

In my 20+ years in the wedding industry, I have witnessed three physical fights at weddings. Two fights were fueled by emotions and alcohol and the third was aggravated by stupidity and hormones. With that being said, real Fort Wayne brides might want to consider limiting alcohol at their wedding reception. This will save money as well as unneeded stress during the party portion of the evening.

Most reception facilities require security at events hosting alcoholic beverages. Just think about it; if someone had hired security for the “Harper’s Island” wedding, there would be a wedding and less than thirteen episodes in this mini-series. Maybe, the next four episodes will bring some bliss to this unlucky couple.

"Harper's Island" Wedding Stress Builds

by June Hoffman of Megasound

“Mayhem” and “chaos” are the two words that fully describe the most recent “Harper’s Island” episode. I am sure that many brides CAN identify with this type of stress.

This episode sure may be a shocker to some real brides. The “Harper’s Island” pandemonium is not about “the bride”.

The real bride lesson is about reassurance. Even during the worst wedding havoc and confusion, families (and true friends) stick together. With that in mind, be sure to thank your loved ones for all that they are and all that they do for you (especially during the trying wedding times).

Enjoy your wedding planning and always ask for help when pre-nuptial anxiety takes hold of you.

Should They Call Off the Wedding on "Harper's Island"

by June Hoffman of Megasound
Is it Time to Call Off the Wedding?

I have been suffering over the last episode of “Harper’s Island”. As the chaos ensues, the idea of the wedding becomes bleak.

Real brides have surely experienced anxiety and strife before their wedding day. Apprehension and adversity cloud the idea of the “happiest day of your life”. Calling off the wedding is apparent for the fictional bride and groom on “Harper’s Island” and in some cases, very true for many real couples.

The real lesson this week on “Harper’s Island” is to determine the true reasons for considering breaking off the engagement and calling off the wedding. An unknown serial killer sounds like a “good” reason. Even the death in the family might be cause for additional stress and a possible reason to at least delay the wedding.

If unresolved issues or other serious concerns about your fiancé are causing doubt on marriage, then look into those areas. Open communication and working together are really useful tools and help you get to the alter and forever after. Hopefully, the next couple of weeks of “Harper’s Island” will show helpful means for brides and grooms to say “I do”.

Chilling Episode Offers One Lesson for Brides

from June Hoffman of Megasound

The most recent installment of “Harper’s Island” showed its true “horror/thriller/mystery” colors. It only took six episodes for the remaining characters to finally realize that something was very, very wrong at this destination wedding. I guess a macabre “accident” involving the father of the bride was a real wake up call.

For real brides, only one realistic lesson emerged from this chilling episode. Insurance for the engagement ring and/or wedding ring(s) would be an important purchase. If a ring was lost, stolen, or mistakenly thrown in the water, at least a replacement would be possible for the couple.

The series is at a half-way point. Hopefully, “Harper’s Island” will still offer some lessons for real brides in the weeks to come.

Real Brides Planning Help from "Harper's Island"

from June Hoffman of Megasound

This week’s installment of “Harper’s Island” certainly had a lot of action. It was almost as exhausting as a real wedding and certainly a lot messier. I spotted three interesting lessons that real brides could learn from this riveting episode of “Harper’s Island”.

When assigning your groom a decision-making task, make sure he completely understands the importance behind that part of the wedding. If his eyes glaze over when you talk about selecting napkin rings and salad forks, you may want to give your groom a different wedding chore. Otherwise, you might be surprised when each place setting is graced with paper napkins and plastic utensils.

The days leading up to the wedding are stressful. Brides and grooms need to agree ahead of time that the wedding comes first. Other people’s drama can wait until after the nuptials.

A rehearsal is important and beneficial to get logistics in place for the wedding ceremony. Make sure that all of your wedding party members know when and where to meet for the practice run. Pending any unforeseen situations, a wedding rehearsal will take less than a hour.

Happy planning to all brides and grooms. Your wedding should be less stressful when you plan ahead with the valuable lessons from “Harper’s Island”. We will have to wait two weeks to see what really happened with the falling chandelier. Hmm…maybe a lesson there about selecting a secure site that isn’t caving in around the wedding ceremony.

"Harper's Island" Portrays Real Wedding Whirlwind

by June Hoffman of Megasound

This last week’s episode of “Harper’s Island” reminded me that weddings are a whirlwind. Bridal couples can become consumed with the excitement of their wedding day and may become oblivious to what is going on around them. I guess that is why the “Harper’s Island” characters are so unaware of missing people (and even a little dog).

One lesson that “Harper’s Island” provides to real brides is to slow down and enjoy the wedding experience. Some suggestions inspired by this episode.

  • Steal a few minutes to spend some time alone with your fiancé. That private time will serve as a re-energizer as well as a reminder of your love.

  • Take pleasure in the special time with your bridesmaids and girlfriends. The bachelorette party or a bridal tea are great bonding sessions.

  • Avoid other people’s drama. Expending that extra energy will only zap your resources. If you have to deal with it, try to put it off until after your wedding day.

  • Limit your alcohol consumption. Drinking may be fun at the time, but the results of over-indulging will take their toll on you.

  • A relaxing swim in a pool has its benefits. Schedule time to swim with a friend so you can watch out for each other.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Real brides might find that difficult to do sometimes. Just remember that you are going to marry the man that you love. Let’s hope the same is true for “Harper’s Island”. We will have to wait until next week.

"Harper’s Island” Offers Planning Lessons for Real Brides

by June Hoffman of Megasound

For the first 55 minutes of this week's episode of “Harper’s Island,” I wondered if anyone would be killed this week. I also thought that it was rather odd that no one realized that several guests and even the little dog were missing from the island. I guess they were more interested in enjoying the week-long party at this destination wedding.

For real brides though, “Harper’s Island” offers some very real planning lessons.

Schedule relaxing activities for your guests and attendants especially during a destination wedding. An afternoon at the pool or spa will help everyone relax from their pre-wedding jitters. It may also be a good idea to keep your flower girl in mind too (just in case she wants to practice being a flower girl by destroying other people's flowers).

Make sure that your fiancé (or others who will be giving a toast) starts writing his toast ahead of time. Early preparation allows for the presenter to practice their toast. This will make the toasts more enjoyable for everyone.

Finally, all brides should be prepared to deal with family expectations. A wedding is a very stressful time. Remember to steer clear of any “drama black holes”. It is your wedding day, so enjoy it as much as possible.

Hopefully, next week's episode of “Harper’s Island” will bring some realizations to the bride and groom and maybe a little less stress of their own. We shall see what other lessons real brides can learn from this destination wedding.

Real Brides Can Learn From "Harper's Island"

Insights from June Hoffman of Megasound

Last night's installment of "Harper’s Island” made me think about three topics for real brides and grooms. After the shock subsided at how easy it was to “kill” off three people in an hour, the issues of “a wedding Officiant back up plan”, “trimming the guest list”, and “the wedding party” came to mind.

The most important legal point of a wedding is the person solemnizing the marriage. What happens if the judge, pastor, rabbi, minister, or the Officiant is late or, worse yet, does not show up at all? Couples should be proactive in their wedding planning. Ask your Officiant about their backup plan.

Keeping the guest list shorter reduces the food and beverage costs. It also keeps your receiving line shorter and gives you a chance to properly acknowledge all of your guests at the reception. By hosting a smaller reception, it allows you to leave the joke players (you know - the ones who might set traps or leave dead animal parts) off your list. I am sure than no one on “Harper’s Island” thought that they would get cut from the guest list once they were on the island though.

Select supportive wedding party members. You are not required to have someone in your wedding party just because you were in their wedding. This helps your attendants' costs (attire, travel, etc.) as well as knowing that your most caring friends are there to support you during your wedding (especially if there is a mass murderer on the loose) .

At the rate characters are “disappearing” from “Harper’s Island,” it makes me wonder if there will be anyone left for the wedding. Of course, other questions come to mind too. Maybe, in the next several weeks, the bride and groom will realize that they are missing some key people for their wedding. We shall see.

Four Helpful Tips for the Month Before Your Wedding

from June Hoffman of Megasound

The last thirty days as a single woman may feel very stressful. From the standpoint of a professional DJ/MC/Officiant, here are four helpful hints for the last four weeks before your wedding.

1. Get your marriage license. In Fort Wayne and Allen County, you can get your marriage license up to sixty days before your wedding. The license is good for sixty days once it is issued. So, if you were putting off traveling to the Allen County Courthouse, put it on your calendar a couple of weeks before your wedding. While it isn't absolutely necessary, it is a good idea to give your license to your officiant before your wedding so that they have it. Then that is one less thing you need to be concerned about the day of your wedding.

2. Write (or review and update) a detailed “wedding day” schedule. You have many things to get accomplished and the wedding day will be very busy. Take a quiet day with your fiancé and put the details of your wedding day on an agenda. This way you avoid the "day-of" confusion and stress. Give (or email) a copy to your wedding party and your wedding professionals about two weeks ahead of time.

3. Set a time to meet with your Officiant and your DJ/MC. The ceremony time line and logistics are important and your Officiant needs to know these details prior to your wedding rehearsal. Your disc jockey (DJ)/MC should work with you in person (if possible) prior to your reception. Planning a wedding reception takes time and you should have already talked to your caterer/venue, photographer, and/or video person so that your DJ/MC has your plan ready ahead of the wedding date.

4. Select your wedding ceremony music. Whether you are holding your ceremony in a church or other location, you should be able to select the ceremony music that best fits your style. Keep in mind that churches have specific rules on which songs are allowed at your wedding ceremony. Wedding ceremonies held at alternative locations (outdoors or reception location) allow for a wider variety of song assortments. Keep in mind that you will want about thirty minutes of prelude music, processional and recessional songs, and approximately thirty minutes of postlude selections. Your music coordinator should have suggestions for you.

Your DJ/MC and Officiant should be able to help you with the last three tips if you need ideas or suggestions. Of course, these tips are only a limited scope of your wedding, so be sure that you and your fiancé review your whole wedding plan together (ahead of time) so you can enjoy your wedding day.

When You Hope that Real Weddings Don’t Mirror Television

AKA What Lessons Real Brides Can Learn from “Harper’s Island”

by June Hoffman of Megasound

I took an hour last night to check out the new mini-series “Harper’s Island.” It is a thirteen week thriller, drama, horror, and wedding event. I read all of the buzz about the show where one person is supposed to die each week. I was shocked when the premiere had two deaths, and by the end of the hour, no one even knew these two characters were dead.

The premiere certainly had all of the real wedding drama. Drunk groomsmen, flirty bridesmaids, moody family members, and all of the anxieties of coming to your childhood home filled the screen. This is not to mention a jealous ex, parents with mixed feelings, a sullen flower girl, a barroom brawl, and more.

What do I think that brides can learn from the "Harper’s Island" premiere? Select a wedding venue that gives off positive vibes. I understand that people die. I would not want the guests having a mass murder as the biggest topic of conversation during the wedding festivities. Just my feelings though.

The previews look interesting for next week's installment of “Harper’s Island.” I know though that I would not want to be the guest who finds Harry Hamlin’s hacked body stuck in a bridge. Who knows what other lessons brides will learn from this new CBS mini-series. We shall see next Thursday.

Wrapping Up the Spring Season

Last week marked the wrap up of the spring season of Bridal Academy. The best part was of the “Wrap of Your Wedding in Style” session for November 2010 bride, Kathleen was “just the overall topics because I got a lot of awesome ideas.”

Sara Keltsch of the Monogram Shoppe shared helpful tips on writing thank you notes. Areas such as when to write notes, how to phrase note content, as well as new ideas on how to incorporate gift photos and how to select an appropriate thank you note style were covered. She also gave each bride their own personal copy of “Heartfelt Thank You Notes” by Beverly Clark.

Dawn Quick of the Wedding Place shared photos and the background secrets of wedding gown preservation. She also revealed the “miracles” performed by the Wedding Gown Preservation Company over the years. Dawn said that she has seen wedding dresses covered with alcohol, dirt, food, as well as mold and this companies intricate process has removed all of these stains and more. Dawn made sure that each bride attending received a $60 coupon in order to preserve their wedding gown after their wedding.

June Hoffman of Megasound literally wrapped up the Bridal Academy session with ideas on how brides and grooms can leave their wedding reception in style. She said that many past couples have added fireworks or sparklers as a way to close their reception with a “bang.” She has even had couples escape in horse-drawn carriages and hot air balloons. June shared a few guest treat ideas for the reception closing including cookies and candy. She made sure that each bride and guest in attendance had plenty of their own sweet treats to enjoy or take home.

All Bridal Academy attendees and sponsors rounded out the session with a game of matching singers and song titles for grand finale reception songs. The brides got a lot of fun last dance song ideas such as “You Want to Make a Memory,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” and “So Long, Farewell, Goodbye” as well as the traditional “Last Dance.”

Two brides won door prizes and all the brides received goodie bags full of wedding planning information, gifts, and wedding savings opportunities. December 2010 bride, Tiffany felt that the topics were “very informative.” As for May 2010 bride, Michelle, she thought that best parts were “the thank you and gown preservation.”

The Bridal Academy Sponsors are always available for questions and assisting Fort Wayne area brides with creating the wedding of their dreams. They look forward to the next session that is September 2009. If you have any special requests for wedding-related topics for the upcoming fall sessions, just let the Bridal Academy Sponsors know as NOW is planning time for these exciting events.

June 2009 bride, Julie pretty much summed up Bridal Academy when she commented that “I think it’s great that you provide this type of thing” for brides.

Happy planning to all brides!!

Five Ways to Save Money Right Now on Your Wedding Reception

by June Hoffman of Megasound

Couples are always looking for deals and discounts and ways to save money on their wedding. Regardless of the state of the economy, the following are five ideas to reduce your wedding expenses right now.

Streamline your guest list. Gone are the days of having 400-500 guests at your wedding reception. Do the math for yourself. If your food menu (including fees, taxes, and gratuities) is $50 per person and you have 200 guests, you are sitting at $10,000. Trim your guest list by 50 names and you are saving $2500. So you would have a reception with your closest 150 friends and family instead of 200 people that you know fairly well (and some not at all). Even reducing your 200 head count guest list by 10% saves you $1000.

Deal with local wedding professionals. It may sound “cool” to brag that your DJ is from Chicago or New York or you got your wedding gown in Indianapolis. It may shock you to pay the additional fees for appearance, transportation and lodging. As for your gown (or bridesmaids dresses), you will rack up a lot your time (and money) for fittings, consultations, and appointments.

Use the internet to do wedding research. Be extremely cautious about purchasing your major wedding items on the internet. Too often, unscrupulous sites over-promise and, in some cases, deliver poor quality products or deliver nothing at all. Why would you want to scramble around a couple of weeks before the wedding to find suitable replacements? Expect rush fees and, possibly, items that are not your original “vision.”

Decide whether you should rent or purchase items for your wedding. Check with your vendors to determine if “renting” certain items is less expensive (and time consuming) than purchasing items. Rental stores, florists, and other wedding vendors have rental options on a wide variety of (generally) “one-time-use” items that you would never think of using daily in your own home (such as candelabras, 200 chair sashes, ivy bowls, and other wedding-themed items).

Ask about vendor “bonuses”. Take advantage of packages from vendors that cover things such as throw-away bouquets, customary linens and flatware, cake service, and more. Many reception facilities have a “standard” set up that is already part of their wedding package. One local shop lets you “borrow” a decorated card box for your wedding weekend when you purchase your invitations through their store. Ask about storage, pressing and other “perks” when you purchase your gown at a full service bridal salon.

Leave me a comment with your questions and I will be happy to give you more sensible ways to stretch your wedding dollars.

Wedding Contracts 101

With the bridal show season in full swing, you will order many services and products for your wedding. Make sure that you cover yourself by always working with reputable vendors and make sure that your wedding contracts are in place.

I thought that I would share the details from one of my presentations so that understanding wedding contracts (before you sign them) becomes easier. If a contract looks too confusing though, you may want to contact your legal advisor.

Details about wedding contracts

1. Always get details in writing when making decisions on your wedding vendors, production, and services. Any discounts, rebates, “freebies,” and other changes to contracts should also be done in writing. Make sure to date them as well.
2. Read contracts carefully before signing. If you are uncomfortable, ask questions and do not sign until you your questions answered. Take the contract home and have someone else read it for clarification before you sign it.
3. Make sure that the contract contains pertinent contact information for the vendor. Any time that your contact information changes, make sure that you alert your wedding vendors in writing. Always keep copies of your correspondence with vendors.
4. Pay vendors with check, money order, or credit card when possible. If you pay cash to any vendor always get a receipt immediately. Be cautious if a vendor requires cash or payment in full up front.

Contract terms that you should know before you sign:

Deposit—a partial payment made at the time of purchase with the balance to be paid later.
Retainer—fee charged in advance to retain the professional services of someone.
Applicable fees—setup, delivery, travel or mileage, taxes, corkage, gratuity, parking, permits, clean up, cake cutting, or others. Always ask for clarification if the contract references an unfamiliar fee.
Additional fees—returned checks, late payment, and/or fees for collection (including attorney’s fees, court costs, and possible interest). Situation occur so be aware that your vendors will pass on costs to cover losses if these circumstances occur with you.
Cancellation policies [when (you) purchaser cancels]—all companies should have some type of defined cancellation policy. Keep in mind that the company has turned away potential business by having your contract. They can not “go back” to those people and try to get the business to replace what they were going to do for you. Depending on when the cancellation occurs, products or consumables have been ordered specifically for you.
Pro-rated cancellation payment schedule-a percentage based on the number of days (or months) prior to your wedding event. The closer to the contract date the higher percentage that you will owe.
Cancellation fees-fees above and beyond the amount you owe on the cancelled contract.
Cancellation policies [if company cancels on (you) the client]—all reputable companies should be able to put in writing what they will do for you (as the client) if they would cancel on you.
Compensation-fee that the company would owe you if they cancelled their services to you.
Suitable substitution-the company would find a substitution in the event that they cancelled the contract on you. This is very important in the case of Officiants or entertainment and where you had written expectations of a specific person(s). In the case of wedding products, make sure that the substitution is equal or "better" than what you agreed to purchase.
Liability Insurance—are you required (by reception venue) to provide liability insurance? Are you held liable for property damages, personal injuries, or accidents due to host liquor liability? What happens if gifts are stolen or a natural disaster occurs during your wedding?
Overtime fees—many times it is less expensive to ask for a longer package or more services ahead of time. On “the day of” overtime may be anywhere from 1 ½ to 2 times more expensive. Many companies have a set package and do not allow any overtime.
Rental items policies—tuxedos and other rental items (cake stands, floral, etc) have a return policy. Be clear on date(s) and conditions as to not incur late or other fees.
Final payments—many vendors require final payment a number of days before your actual wedding. Try to make as many final payments as possible prior to your wedding. This will help avoid late payment fees/charges.

If you have a "term" not explained above, just leave a comment or email me and I will get you the definition. Remember that many states (and countries) have different "rules" so if your plan a destination wedding make sure that you have all of the details.

Take Control of Your Bridal Show Adventure

The ACD Classic City Bridal Show is this Sunday. I wanted to share some tips on how to reduce the “overwhelming” feelings that many bride experience during a bridal show. The following tips are only a few tips to survive any bridal show. Be sure to check out the full article.

- Wear comfortable shoes for walking. Most facilities only have space to sit and view a fashion show. Keep in mind that you will spend most of your time walking, standing, and talking.
- Bring a roll (or sheet) of pre-addressed name and address labels. Many shows as well as vendors offer FREE registration for door prizes and give-a-ways.
- Bring a swatch of material or ribbon in your wedding colors. This will give both you and the vendors a better visualization of you wedding ideas.
- Register for any/all prizes that interest you. Keep in mind that by you registering for these prizes you are granting permission for those vendors to contact you (via phone, mail, or email).
- Pace yourself. You will only have a short amount of time to talk to the wedding professionals in the areas where you need assistance. Get as much information in writing as possible. Find out when you can schedule a private appointment or consultation.
- Do not make a day of decision unless you previously talked to that vendor. Any vendors who offer show specials should offer a deadline after the show date.
Take your accumulated information, notes, and photos home. Go through these items within a couple of days of the bridal show. You will have the clearest thoughts soon after the show rather than weeks or months later. Take the time to enjoy the bridal show as a whole and try to take your time. You might find that you find additional assistance with your wedding in the most unlikely of places.

Just a Snack...

Your wedding day will be a very long day that goes very quickly. Regardless of how nervous you are, you should try to eat a healthy breakfast and lunch. Even fresh fruit, cheeses, and veggies are better than going hungry. Keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water and not alcohol or sugary, caffeinated drinks as these will zap your energy level later in the evening.

At a recent wedding, I started my own little tradition for the bride and groom. I cut two small pieces of their wedding cake and put them on a paper plate. Then I wrapped it in plastic and added napkins and a couple of forks for them to actually enjoy their cake during their limo ride after the reception.

You might want to ask your caterer or wedding coordinator to put a small care package together for you at the end of the reception. Your nerves and stress level will be a lot lower after your reception. And by that time, you may want to eat a little something to round out the evening. It would be a lot more enjoyable (and healthier) than running through the Taco Bell drive through in your wedding dress.
